One sexy deacon and one actress running away from Hollywood and add the beauty of the Northland, you find yourself falling into another wonderful romance from Serenity Woods.Fliss River is an actress in Hollywood on the verge of making it big when a co-star/boyfriend decides to sabotage her by posting private photos of her that could end her career. Fliss decides to return back to En Zed and to stay with one of her few friends from her childhood, Roberta. She also decides to go back to using her childhood name of Fliss while she is in En Zed.Roberta’s brother is Dominic. Dominic is a deacon in the church. (Think minister.) When he lost his wife a few years ago, he made the decision that he would not remarry nor would he date. It would be just him and his daughter.Attraction can play havoc with the stated plans of man. Add in a photograph of Fliss in a modeled wedding gown leaked out to the town and things happen. This is a well crafted book with real characters who have flaws just like us. It does move at a fairly fast pace but it is at the right pace for the plot lines.I always enjoy Ms. Woods’ novels because of the way that she blends characters with RL issues that I can relate to and that she always manages to make the magical landscape of En Zed a part of the novel.This is the second story in the new series Bay of Islands Brides. Each book is a stand alone novel but it is always fun to read them in order so you get to revisit old friends.I did receive a copy of this novel from the author in advance in exchange for a fair, unbiased review.
As much as I've enjoyed many of Serenity Woods' novels, this was a disappointment. Dominic managed to go from promising his dying wife he'd never love anyone else (trope) to being an Everready sexual bunny in the blink of an eye. Felicity was hard to relate to -- the screen ingenue in the middle of a p.r. scandal giving philosophical advice on life and love to a deacon while on the rebound herself.I started to twitch after drowning in repeated references to her leading him astray, corrupting him, and her dirty-mouthed preacher man. Other cheesy dialogue included “You’ve cast some kind of spell on me.†“Abracadabra,†she murmured. Sigh.....2.5 stars rounded to 3.
WOW WOW WOW---I LOVED IT. A stand alone read with a HEA. Part of a series but can be read by itself. There are a lot of characters that have their own books so you get to revisit and "know" the character that is being talked about. I LOVED this story. A Deacon in the church is a bit different in the states. He is more of just a supporting cast in the church with no ambition to be a part of the clergy. I don't know that he even has to have any special training, just be willing to do the job. Dominic is a different kind of hero. Still a perfect guy to fall in love with but he has a strong sense of doing the right thing and being aware of others feelings, etc. He is a widower with a 7 year old daughter. He has a big family with his mother, sisters and brothers so he has a large support group to help with his daughter. He is the perfect guy. One has a tendency to think all clergy looks down on anything sexual but Dominic is NOT that way. He is good as gold in his life and in his bed. Wow, never met a preacher or a deacon quite like Dominic.Fliss is a native of New Zealand but made her mark in Hollywood. She is an up and coming young actress doing quite well for herself. It seems like she has it all. And then her world explodes. Just seeing her thoughts in print gives you an impression of what a lot of stardom is really like. She runs home to New Zealand to her best friend to get away from the press and to decide what she really wants for the rest of her life. She has a lot of soul searching to do.Domonic is her best friend's brother so they are immediately brought into the same circle of family and friends. Their story is off the charts. It amazes me how a writer can weave a story to the point of you getting right in the middle of it and not wanting to do anything but see where it goes. I LOVED this story and the characters. The story sucks you in from the first sentence and you will not want to put it down until you see The End. And then, you will wish there were a few more chapters. It leaves you feeling light hearted and good. A great story, a great read, a great hero, I absolutely definitely recommend it.I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 4/28/18
Floss has been burned by Hollywood and gets out of the spotlight by heading home to quiet (and anonymous) Northland to be near the people who knew the real girl and not the starlet. Humiliated and hurting, Fliss finds comfort in old friends and one now grown up friend’s brother.Dominic is a school counselor and Deacon with a precocious daughter. A widower, he took is marriage vows expecting them to last until his death, too. But, seeing Fliss again after so many years makes him rethink his future.A lovely story about the power of the media (and social media) and the power of faith in decision making. Figuring out ones own heart isn’t always easy...I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I read the first book in this series. I started this one & finished it a day & a half. I throughly enjoyed both books. I just pre-ordered the 3rd book in the series. I was hesitant about this series because it is not set in the USA or Europe. I had no problem reading & following the different words used that are not common here. Actually I think I enjoyed the book more because of that.
Great read for those that love sweet romances. With morals and faith love can blossom keep your heart open. It has some hot moments too but great story. If your life is not what you want there is always another path to follow.
I read Bride in Trouble and then Bride by Mistake, I love how you bring characters from other series and I especially love how you describe New Zealand. All your books are wonderful you never disappoint. I always go back and reread your stories. I love your writing.
