Barbara Villet is an author and journalist who was a photo editor at Life and collaborated on many of Mr. Villet's projects.Grey Villet (1927–2000) was a celebrated, award-winning photojournalist for Life magazine. Throughout his career, he shot for publications in his native South Africa, England, and the United States, covering breaking news, sports, presidential politics, and entertainment, and documenting the midcentury conflicts of the American South, Cuba, and the Middle East.One of photojournalism's most distinguished practitioners, Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Crowley of the New York Times credits the influence of a Grey Villet Life essay with his decision, at age nine, to become a photographer.

Grey Villet beautifully captured the Lovings' story for all of the world to see. These two people, who simply wanted the freedom to love one another, became American heroes by courageously standing for what was right, deemed by God, and blessed by the Almighty as well. Each image shows the reverence they held for each other. Their love, respect and admiration was brilliantly illuminated in every gaze, every touch, every image. What an extraordinary gift - to be loved and to love like that!
Life is difficult without the ugliness of others getting in the mix. Two loving humans making the best out of their lives. Great book. Thank you.
Excellent book beautiful photos one of my favorite picture books along with text
True story and perfectly cast. Can't think of one negative thing except it's too bad the Supreme Court arguments weren't included.
This is a very touching photo-essay about an interracial couple who love for each other truly overcame all odds.
In 1959 a couple with different skin pigments get married. Turns out that in their home state of Virginia it is illegal and the get arrested. They actually plead guilty and then their case works its way through the legal system. During that time a photographer visits their home to record photographs of their existence at home and the race track. B/W images, insightful.
